Likhari

Changelog

Full release history and version notes for Likhari — the Nastaliq word processor for Urdu, Pashto, Arabic and Sindhi.

Version 1.3

Latest July 2026

Added

  • Free, with an optional Likhari Pro unlock — the whole word processor is free; the free tier stamps a discreet “Created with Likhari” watermark along the bottom of exported and printed pages, and a one-time Pro purchase removes it. Upgrade from the toolbar or Help menu; Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
  • Horizontal & vertical rulers — an inch scale across the top and down the side of the editor, each toggleable from the new View menu, with your choice remembered.
  • Unsaved-changes warning — closing a tab or the window now prompts to save any document with unsaved edits, instead of silently discarding them.
  • Crash recovery — open documents with unsaved changes are snapshotted periodically; after an unexpected close, the next launch offers to recover them. A clean save or close clears the snapshot so you’re never prompted needlessly.

Fixed

  • Startup could appear to hang when crash-recovery snapshots existed — the recovery prompt now shows correctly after the splash screen closes.

Version 1.2

July 2026

Added

  • WYSIWYG PDF / PNG export — exports now render the whole document exactly as it appears on screen: multiple columns, per-character formatting, inline and floating images, inline tables (including a tall table split across pages), floating tables, and header/footer bands with page numbering. Screen and export now share the same page-painting engine, so they can never drift apart. (Previously the exporters re-laid-out from raw text and silently dropped tables, images and columns.)

Version 1.1

July 2026

The release that turned Likhari from a paginated editor into a full word processor.

Added

  • Selectable keyboard layouts — phonetic (Roman→Urdu), positional Urdu/Pashto/Sindhi, or “Direct” (your OS keyboard), each with a visual on-screen key preview; your choice is remembered as the default for new documents and shown in the status bar.
  • Page columns — one, two or three newspaper-style columns with a configurable gutter; text flows down one column and continues at the top of the next.
  • Tables, inline and floating — drop a table into the text flow at the cursor (it moves with your edits) or float it left/right with text wrapping around it; a table taller than a page splits between rows across pages with proper continuation borders. Multiple tables per document, editable cells in place, and Tab/Shift+Tab between cells.
  • Table border styles — None / Solid / Dashed / Dotted, with configurable weight and colour, stroked as clean deduplicated gridlines.
  • Images, inline and floating with text wrap — inline images sit as their own centered block and move with edits; floating images dock left or right with text wrapping (or jump the text above and below). Images are embedded in the document, and Edit Image resizes/repositions/rewraps a selected one.
  • Per-character formatting — bold, italic and text colour apply to just the selected text, with a colour dialog (hex + presets) and Ctrl+B / Ctrl+I.
  • Find & Replace — a non-modal panel with Find Next, Replace, Replace All and optional match-case (Ctrl+F).
  • Page Setup — A4, Letter or a custom paper size, with margins.
  • Recent Files — Open Recent lists your last ten documents.

Fixed

  • The Table, Header/Footer and Find/Replace dialogs now respect the selected Urdu/Pashto/Sindhi keyboard (they previously produced raw English), and set right-to-left direction to match the script.
  • The font and size pickers now apply to the current selection instead of silently rewriting the whole document, and picking a size from the dropdown now takes effect.
  • Per-run text colour is now honoured on screen (it was previously computed but always painted black).
